🌍 Learn Dutch for school — free, with help in English
Is your child new in the Netherlands or Belgium? Leerkwartier helps children aged about 6 to 12 with the Dutch they need at school. Everything stays in Dutch, but your child can tap a sentence to see it in English, and the app can read everything aloud.
▶ Open the starting point in EnglishThree steps to the normal class
- Step 1 · Welcome: classroom sentences ("May I go to the toilet?"), first words, maths words and counting to 20.
- Step 2 · Letters and words: sounds, short words, more words and a simple dictation.
- Step 3 · The bridge to the class: the words on worksheets (circle, fill in, tick) and sums in a short story. Then a bridge test with questions from the normal app.
Every step ends with a short test and a certificate to print. On the page your child sees "What can I do already?" with ticks.

Is it really free?
Yes. Practising is free for children, parents and schools, guaranteed until 2031. There are no ads and no subscription.
Does my child need an account or an e-mail address?
No. Your child opens the page and starts. Progress is saved on the device.
Is everything translated?
No, on purpose: everything stays in Dutch, because that is what your child is learning. Your child can tap a sentence to see it in English, Arabic, Ukrainian, Turkish, Romanian or Bulgarian.
